Texas Tech freshman wide receiver Bronson Boyd has been dismissed from the Tech football program.
The story was first reported by RedRaiderSports.com early on Saturday afternoon.
Officials close to the Texas Tech football program have confirmed that Boyd is no longer with the team.
The dismissal is due to a violation of team rules. A Tech spokesperson declined further comment on the situation.
Boyd was one of 13 newcomers that were announced to the Texas Tech football program Thursday, January 19, as a part of the 2017 signing class. He decided to enroll early and begin classes this spring and join the team for spring practice.
Boyd was a four-star prospect via ESPN and a three-star prospect according to 247Sports, Scout and Rivals. Boyd was tabbed as the No. 61 wide receiver prospect in the nation, according to ESPN. He hauled in 61 receptions totaling 1,137 yards and eight touchdowns as a senior at The Oakridge School. His position coach was former Texas Tech great Carlos Francis, who recorded more than 3,000 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns as a Red Raider before the Oakland Raiders selected him in the fourth round of the 2004 NFL Draft.
Boyd chose Texas Tech over offers from: Wisconsin, Arizona, Utah, Purdue, Indiana, Boise State, Houston, New Mexico and Colorado State, among others.
