Texas Tech surrendered 29 unanswered points in the second half in Saturday’s 46-35 loss to West Virginia in Morgantown.

The Red Raiders took their biggest lead of the game when Tre King broke a 30-yard touchdown run to make it 35-17 early in the third quarter but that’s when the game turned.

The Mountaineers scored four straight touchdowns and took the lead on Will Grier’s second touchdown pass of the fourth quarter to Ka’Raun White, 39-35.

For the second straight week, Texas Tech scored on its opening drive when Nic Shimonek found T.J. Vasher for a 60-yard touchdown.

West Virginia would answer with a Will Grier to David Sills 31-yard touchdown pass to tie the game at seven.

The Red Raiders regain the lead on Dylan Cantrell’s 6-yard touchdown catch.  Shimonek’s second touchdown pass of the day put Texas Tech ahead 14-7.

Texas Tech started the second quarter with a Michael Barden field goal miss but score on its next possession.

Shimonek’s third touchdown pass of the day went to KeKe Coutee to put Texas Tech on top 21-10.

West Virginia marched down the field with the help Texas Tech penalties and scored on a Justin Crawford touchdown run to cut the Red Raiders lead to 21-17.

Shimonek answered with his fourth touchdown pass of the half and second to Vasher to make it 28-17.

Texas Tech had a chance to extend the lead at the half but Barden missed his second field goal attempt and the Red Raiders had to settle for a 21-17 halftime lead.

After another Grier touchdown pass to Sills, Barden missed his third field goal attempt of the game from 37 yards.

West Virginia scored three fourth quarter touchdowns to pull ahead for good.

The Red Raiders (4-2, 1-2) return home to host Iowa State at 11 a.m. Saturday at Jones AT&T Stadium.
