Texas Tech held off Baylor, 38-24, and snapped its four-game losing streak in the process Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
The Red Raiders jumped in from 7-0 14 seconds into the game when KeKe Coutee returned the opening kickoff 92-yards for a touchdown.
It was the first time Texas Tech had returned the opening kickoff for a scores since 1973.
Baylor would answer with a 12-play, 75 yard drive capped by a Charlie Brewer touchdown pass to Gavin Holmes to tie the game.
Texas Tech regained the lead on a one yard touchdown run by Tre King and led 14-7 after the first quarter.
The Red Raiders capitalized on a Baylor turnover in the red zone taking it 86 yards and scoring on a Nic Shimonek pass to T.J. Vasher to give Texas Tech a 21-7 lead.
The defense came up big two more times in the second quarter. First with a goal line stand on 4th and one to force a turnover on downs then with a Vaughnte Dorsey interception to end the half.
The Red Raider defense forced two more turnovers in the second half. The second came in the fourth quarter when Douglas Coleman forced a fumble and return it for a score.
Texas Tech (5-5) is now a win away from becoming bowl eligible.
The Red Raiders host TCU on Saturday. The kickoff time is still to be determined.
