The Red Raiders snapped a two-game losing streak by throttling LSU in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge, 77-64.
For only the second time Texas Tech head coach Chris Beard was riding a two-game losing streak at the division one level. His team responded the way he liked tonight behind a big win over the Tigers.
Texas Tech (15-6, 3-5 Big 12) led by as many as 21 with just 3:58 left to play in the second half. Tech boasted four different players in double figures, while Tech’s junior forward Zach Smith led the way with 25 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field along with 8 rebounds.
The Red Raiders finally saw their shots fall from beyond the three-point line, finishing 12-of-23 (52%) from beyond the arc. Tech also poured in 25 baskets on 17 assists, all without their junior point guard Keenan Evans who sat out due to an injury suffered on the final play at Baylor.
Texas Tech also fought hard on the glass, out-rebounding the Tigers 33-25.
Texas Tech will be back in action when they travel to Austin to face Texas this Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 8 p.m. CT with the game broadcast on ESPNU.
