Today’s competition at the Lied Recreation Center in Ames, Iowa brought 14 personal bests and 13 top-five finishes.
The men’s team finished the weekend third overall with 99.5 points. This is the most points ever scored by the men at the Big 12 Indoor Championship.
Darien Tennon’s first Big 12 title was owed to his 7.86 60-meter hurdle time. This run was improved from his previous best of 7.89 at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville. This is the second consecutive indoor conference meet in which the 60H title has been taken by a Red Raider.
The women’s high jump title was taken by Zarriea Willis at a 1.82m/5-11.50 bar. This was a first conference win for Willis.
The men’s high jump second place spot was obtained by Trey Culver at a height of 2.21m/7-3.00.
For the second day in a row, Marika Brown hit new lifetime best improvements in the 200-meter and 400-meter races. Brown shaved off over three seconds in the 400m, moving her mark from 57.59 to 53.77.
Andrew Hudson and Trevin Chambers both had strong performances in the men’s 60m and 200m races. Hudson paced a 20.85 200m run for second place, while Chambers wrangled a 21.11 personal record for sixth place.
A second place finish of 46.38 was claimed by Kyle Collins in the men’s 400m race.
C.J. Jones and Vincent Crisp both notched new 800m indoor PRs of 1:48.70 and 1:48.86 respectively to take third and fifth place.
Charles Brown and Viershanie Latham both took top spots in the men’s and women’s triple jump finishing third overall with marks of 16.05m/52-8 and 13.18/43-3.00. Brown’s jump proved to be a new personal best.
The meet concluded with the women’s 4×400 relay (Marika Brown, Sara Limp, Taylor Rockwell and Maygen Smith) placing fifth with their time of 3:38.54, and the men’s 4×400 relay (C.J. Jones, Kyle Collins, Vincent Crisp and Chancellor Stephenson) taking third in 3:07.84.
Next up, Red Raiders with qualifying marks will take the week to prepare for the NCAA Indoor Championships in College Station, Texas on March 10th and 11th.
