Texas Tech volleyball head coach Tony Graystone continued retooling his roster Tuesday with the signing of Texas A&M – Corpus Christi graduate transfer Kate Klepetka to the program for the 2017 season.

One of the most decorated players in TAMUCC history, Klepetka played under Graystone for two seasons at the Island from 2014-15 prior to his arrival at Texas Tech. Under Graystone’s tutelage, she was named 2015 Southland Conference Libero of the Year and First Team All-Southland Conference, as well as AVCA All-Region first team after setting the school’s single-season record for digs with 709 and finishing second in the nation at 6.06 digs per set.

“I’m very happy to be reunited with Kate, and am thrilled she chose to play her last season of eligibility as a Red Raider,” Graystone said. “Kate’s a winner, and she can really play. She was the best libero in the Southland Conference and an AVCA All-Region player, and she will definitely impact our team and improve our ball control. By adding Kate, we’ve taken another big step forward, and I feel really good about the 2017 roster.”

In her three-year career at TAMUCC, Klepetka holds the school record for career digs with 1,773. She posted 609 last fall as a redshirt junior, including four 30-dig performances. Along with her defensive prowess, she added 33 service aces and 80 assists for the Islanders in 2016, helping them to their second straight Southland Conference regular season and tournament titles.

A native of Allen, Texas, Klepetka played a major role on Allen High School’s 2012 squad that won the district champion and was a regional semifinalist. She earned District 10-5A first team honors in 2012 after receiving District 8-5A second team accolades her junior season. She signed with Colorado out of high school before transferring to TAMUCC in 2014.

Klepetka is the ninth addition to the roster for Texas Tech heading in to the 2017 season and the fourth transfer, joining Missy Owens from Long Beach State, Emily Hill from Mississippi State and Madison Lopez from North Central Texas College. The Red Raiders also have five high school signees set to enter the fold this fall.

Texas Tech begins fall camp Aug. 8 and open the regular season Aug. 25-26 with a slate of matches at the Barcelona HBU Classic in Houston.
