The Texas Tech volleyball team held a 2-1 lead after three sets, but ultimately dropped a hard-fought loss to Oklahoma, 3-2 (30-28, 27-29, 24-26, 25-16, 15-10) Wednesday night at United Supermarkets Arena.

After dropping a tight first set, the Red Raiders (16-10, 5-7) fought back to take the next two, saving four set points in the second set on their way to a 1-1 split, then finishing the third set with back-to-back blocks to gain a 2-1 advantage.

Oklahoma (14-10, 6-6) would hit a match-high .382 in the fourth frame to send it to a fifth, and Tech committed seven errors in the final stanza while hitting -.077 as OU claimed the match.

The five-set loss was Tech’s first of the season when leading 2-1. It was also the first five-set loss in Big 12 play this season and its first against a conference opponent at home since a 3-2 loss to No. 18 Iowa State last season.

“Nothing changes on our end, whether we would have won tonight or not,” Texas Tech coach Tony Graystone said. “We still have work to do and there’s still a lot of volleyball left in front of us. The hard part is, just because of how tough it was and the emotional side that you pour into it. So, we’ve just got to recover and go back to work.”

Freshman Brooke Kanas led the Red Raiders with 19 kills while junior Emily Hill chipped in a double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs. Senior Setter Missy Owens flirted with a triple-double as she finished with 44 assists, 10 digs and eight kills along with six blocks to boot.

A stout Red Raider block helped limit Sooner leading killer Alyssa Enneking to .203 hitting, but the senior outside hitter still racked up 24 kills on 64 swings with 18 digs. She was joined in double figures by Paige Anderson’s 15 kills as well as 13 from Sarah Sanders.

Leading the defense with a career-high 10 blocks was senior Katy Keenan, who added nine kills offensively on .364 hitting. Three more Red Raiders tallied six blocks apiece, including Hill, Owens and freshman Karrington Jones.

The home loss was just the second of the season for the Red Raiders, moving to 7-2. Oklahoma now leads the all-time series 38-35, including wins in 26 of the last 27 meetings between the two teams.

With four matches remaining in the regular season, Tech returns to action Monday, Nov. 12, against Baylor at 6 p.m. on FOX Sports Southwest Plus.
