The Red Raider basketball team dropped a heart breaker on Saturday night to then-6th ranked West Virginia, 80-76 after having a four point lead in the final minute.
Tarik Phillip scored 8 unanswered points in the final minute to push the Mountaineers to victory, dropping Texas Tech to 12-6 overall and 2-6 in Big 12 play.
Coach Tubby Smith says, while his team is getting better, they aren’t learning lessons from the past.
“We had just made that same mistake against Baylor,” said Smith. “Gave up a 3 for a winner. We did this against West Virginia two years ago here, banked it in I think to go to overtime and beat us. So we’re just not retaining the lessons as well as I’d hope, and it’s really disappointing. But again, we’re getting better, we’re getting closer to beating some of these top teams, and I think the minute we can cross that threshold, or climb that mountain, I think you’ll see our confidence grow even more.”
