Texas Tech senior Hannes Ronneblad has been named the Big 12 Men’s Golfer of the Month for the month of March, the conference office announced Wednesday.

This marks the first time Ronneblad has won the award, and he is the second Red Raider to win the award this season, joining Fredrik Nilehn, who won in October. The last time Tech won this award twice in a calendar year was the 2006-07 season (Jake Younan-Wise and Will Griffin).

Before this season, a Red Raider golfer had not earned the honor since 2011 (Tyler Weworski).

Ronneblad won the Bandon Dunes individual title in Tech’s first appearance at the event, all time. He virtually led wire-to-wire, opening with a 65 on day one before firing two more under-par rounds to end it. In the final round, with Golfstat’s top-ranked player in the country, Oregon’s Wyndham Clark at his heels, Ronneblad went 4-under par on his final nine holes, including birdies on 16 and 18 to slam the door.

In Las Vegas, Ronneblad was the posterchild of consistency for the Red Raiders on what was a course that played extremely tough for what is annually one of the most competitive fields in college golf. Ronneblad went under par all three rounds again to wrap up yet another top-10 finish, taking seventh (-4).

Ronneblad carded under-par rounds all six times he stepped foot on a course in the month of March, on his way to sealing the No. 1 spot on the European Palmer Cup team, going 1-2 with Nilehn.

Ronneblad and the Red Raiders return to action April 16 for the Hawkeye Invitational, in Iowa City, Iowa. It will be the final tournament before postseason play begins at the Big 12 Championships April 24-26, in Hutchinson, Kansas.
