On Tuesday night Shallowater ISD made it official, Canyon ISD athletic director Bryan Wood was named head football coach/AD of the Mustangs program.

Wood replaces Chad Terry who was reassigned in November, Shallowater finished 2-9 in 2016.

Before becoming the athletic director at Canyon ISD Wood made stops in Sunray, Pampa and Randall all as a head coach. He complied an overall record of 149-58.

The former athletic director is moving from an administrative role back to the sidelines, ultimately Wood said he missed coaching too much,

“I want to be connected to kids and to football and this is how you do it.”

Why Shallowater? Wood loved the town’s atmosphere,

“anytime you can be part of a program that’s got some tradition and a community that’s very supportive like this one appears to be it’s something you want to be a part of.”

As for when the new coach would get in and talk to his players, he told us it might be a couple weeks before all that happens,

“As soon as I can we don’t have a timeline set right now everyday that I’m not here we’re getting behind.”

Wood will also begin assembling his staff as he settles into his new position.
