Swoopes Named to Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame

Brownfield native and Texas Tech alum Sheryl Swoopes was named as part of the 2016 class for the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

The Former Cub is currently the head coach for women’s basketball at Loyola University in Chicago. Asaide from the 1988 state championship with Brownfield, Swoopes also won the 1993 national championship with the Lady Raiders at Texas Tech and was the 1993 consensus national player of the year. Following her time at Tech, Swoopes went on to the WNBA, where she was a three-time WNBA MVP, four-time WNBA champion, and even represented the United States in three different Olympics.


The Hall of Fame enshrinement will be on September 10th.
