Texas Tech senior forward Janine Beckie caught the eye of her coaches and managers on the Canadian National Team Saturday with a two-goal performance in the opening round of the Pan American Games.

Canada would go on to win the match versus Ecuador 5-2 in pool play.

Beckie talked with Red Raider Nation over the phone Monday about her big performance on the world stage.

“For the first goal, I just took my opportunity,” said Beckie. “It was great to score again at that level because it’s been a while since I score for the [Canadian Nationa] Senior Team.”

“I always talk about at Texas Tech it’s my job to score as a forward,” Beckie expanded. “It was really nice to get my job done and get a few goals under my belt…it makes me more comfortable for the rest of the tournament.”

Beckie and Canada take on Costa Rica Wednesday as they continue pool play in the Pan American Games.
