The bowl season, at least you would think, is out of reach for Texas Tech.
There are 80 bowl games this year!
And it doesn’t seem there will be enough 6-6 football teams to fill all the slots, which leaves a few sub-.500 teams to crash the party once again.
After Saturday’s games, the number of bowl-eligible teams reached 74.
That mean six potential sub-.500 teams could go bowling.
The NCAA football bowl subdivision saw three teams with losing record reach a bowl game last season in Nebraska, Minnesota and San Jose State.
The first picks of the litter are selected by Academic Progress Rate, or also know as, graduation rate. So, while Tech is on the outside looking in, it would be safe to assume that Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt would not be too fired up about Tech or anyone for that matter, going bowling at 5-7 with this watered-down bowl era we live in.
“I think bowl games are a great thing, and I believe in the bowl system, but I’m both personally and professionally not in favor of 5-7 football teams participating in bowl games. That’s just my personal opinion. If that call were to come for us this season, I’m sure we would have a conversation about it, but I think we would have to think long and in-depth about that.”
