When Tim Tadlock was announced as Texas Tech’s head coach in June 2012, he stated that the Red Raiders would strive each day to win a championship.

On Friday night, Texas Tech achieved that goal as the Red Raiders clinched a share of the program’s second Big 12 Conference regular-season title in school history and first since the 1997 campaign.

The Red Raiders, who are in the midst of an open weekend on the conference schedule, clinched the title after Oklahoma withstood a two-hour rain delay to top second place Oklahoma State, 9-1, at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City.

Tech entered the weekend with a two-game lead over the Cowboys as well as a three-game advantage over third-place TCU. The Horned Frogs also fell Friday night, which officially eliminated TCU from the Big 12 title race.

The Red Raiders can win the Big 12 title outright with another Oklahoma State loss this weekend or via a victory in Tech’s final series of the regular season against West Virginia.

This is Tech’s third regular-season title in program history and its fifth conference championship overall as the Red Raiders claimed the Southwest Conference regular-season and tournament crowns in 1995 as well as the 1998 Big 12 Tournament title.

In addition to clinching a share of the regular-season title, Tech guaranteed itself the top seed at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship which will be held May 25-29 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The Red Raiders will host West Virginia before heading to Oklahoma City as the Red Raiders open a three-game set against the Mountaineers next Thursday inside Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. with television coverage provided on FOX Sports Southwest.
