The Texas Longhorns came into Lubbock, and ran out with a 45-37 win.
UT running back D’onta Foreman gained a career high 341 yards and three touchdowns, he now has ten straight games over 100 yards rushing, one shy of the Texas record set by Earl Campbell.
Although Foreman had a big day the Red Raider defense came up with big plays at crucial times. In the first half Douglas Coleman returned a fumble 100 yards for a TD.
Ondre Pipkins recovered a fumble late in the fourth quarter to keep tech in the game. After the game Coach Kingsbury thought the defense played well enough to get a victory,
“I thought they played well enough defensively, at times they stood up, had some unbelievable plays to get us the ball, the chance to win the game over and over and over and offensively we just kept floundering.”
Patrick Mahomes threw for 367 yards and three touchdowns but was picked off in the endzone by Kris Boyd as the clock wound down in the fourth quarter.
Two weeks ago against Oklahoma, the Texas Tech offense gained 854 total yards. In the last two weeks against TCU and Texas, the offense hasn’t matched that total.
