The Red Raiders were pushed to their limits in their eighth non-conference test this season, as they held on in the final seconds to defeat Rice, 85-84.

Texas Tech held on courtesy of three crucial free throws from senior forward Anthony Livingston. The Red Raiders trailed Rice 84-82, but with two-seconds left Livingston was fouled behind the three-point line. He calmly knocked down three straight free throws to give the Red Raiders the 85-84 lead with two seconds remaining.

The Owls (6-2) had one last in-bound to try and take the lead, but the pass was broken up at mid-court and Marcus Evans’ desperation heave attempt was no good, which sealed Texas Tech’s 85-84 win.

Livingston led the way offensively for Tech by scoring 33 points on 10-for-17 from the field, including 3-for-7 from beyond the arc.

The Red Raiders (7-1) had to withstand a barrage of three point shots from the Owls, who went 15-for-31 from three-point land.

Rice was led in scoring by Owls sophomore guard Marcus Evans who scored 27 points on 7-for-16 from the field, including 6-for-11 from beyond the arc.

Evans was a part of a 1-2 punch that also featured Owls’ junior guard Egor Koulechov who scored 25 points on 8-for-14 from the field, including 5-for-7 from beyond the arc.

Texas Tech will be back in action against UT-San Antonio on Wednesday, Dec. 7th at 7:00 p.m. CT at the United Supermarkets Arena.
