The first preseason college baseball poll is out and Texas Tech is ranked No. 29 in Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s Fabulous 40.

Tech is fresh off their second College World Series appearance in the last three seasons where they concluded the season fifth nationally, their highest finish in school history. The Red Raiders 7-5 loss to Coastal Carolina – the eventual 2016 CWS champion – ended Tech’s season at 47-20 overall, marking the most wins since 1996, and the third-most win in program history.

Tech returns four position players, and three key pitchers in 2017. Those seven players are the core that is left after the Red Raiders saw a school record 10 players selected in the MLB Draft this summer.

The Big 12 has three other programs ranked in the Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s poll, including in-state rival TCU who checks in at No. 1, Oklahoma State at No. 28 and Texas at No. 30.
