Texas Tech rolled past Eastern Washington 56-10 to start their 2017 season with a season-opening win.
Tech has now won 15-straight season openers, which ranks third nationally. The Red Raiders trail just Alabama (15), and Ohio State (17).
Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury had his offense firing on all cylinders. The Tech offense racked up 626 total yards of offense, which included 449 passing yards, along with 177 yards rushing.
Tech’s senior quarterback Nic Shimonek shined in his first career FBS game. Shimonek finished 26-for-30, 384 pass yards and three touchdowns.
Defensively the Red Raiders showed off a different looking group that appeared much improved. Tech held Eastern Washington to just 303 yards of total offense, and just 10 total points.
Tech defensive coordinator David Gibbs was also able to see a return in the turnover department. Tech forced the Eagles into three turnovers, including a 33-yard pick six by sophomore defensive back Willie Sykes.
