Devon Thomas’ three-point attempt hit nothing but net in overtime but the shot came after the final buzzer in Texas Tech’s 82-80 loss to Iowa State.
The Cyclones missed back-to-back free throw attempts in the final seconds of overtime giving Texas Tech a chance to tie or win.
Keenan Evans brought the ball up court, passed to Zach Smith who then passed the ball with three-tenths of a second left to Thomas who was unable to let the ball go before the final buzzer.
Texas Tech was able to force overtime for a second straight game despite not making a field goal in the final 3:51 of the game. The Red Raiders ended the game on a 13-5 run with their final nine points coming from the free throw line.
Niem Stevenson scored a team-high 17 in the loss while Zach Smith and Justin Gray added 16 a piece.
Five of Texas Tech’s last six losses have come by four points or less.
Texas Tech (17-11, 5-10) visits Oklahoma State at noon Saturday in Stillwater.
