STRIVR has created virtual reality technology to help student athletes train off the field. It has become the latest fad with universities like Clemson, Michigan and Stanford trying out the new way to study film.
Now, Texas Tech has it.
Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury compared a football players use of the technology, to a pilot using a flight simulator. Kingsbury saying that the first time he put the goggles on, he was sold.
“It puts you at the quarterback position…its like a flight simulator for a pilot. You are getting those reps mentally where those no other way to simulate that,” Kingsbury said.
For quarterback Patrick Mahomes II, the technology gives him the mental edge he needs.
“It let’s me get into the film. I mean when you watch it on the screen you can really look at things but you can’t see the whole aspect of it. With the virtual reality, I am right there- you are seeing exactly where I am taking my drops and where I am taking my throws, so just being able to see the defenses before we even play them does really help out,” Mahomes said.
