It was a rare defensive battle and the Texas Tech Red Raiders came out on top with a little help from TCU special teams.

Horned Frogs kicker Brandon Hatfield missed three field goals from inside the 40 yard line, mistakes that ultimately decided the game.

The biggest miss came in double overtime, after that all the Red Raiders had to do was make a field goal of their own. Clayton Hatfield buried a 37 yard FG to give Tech the 27-24 win.

After allowing 854 yards of total offense and 66 points last week against Oklahoma, the defense stepped up today.

TCU was held to 418 yards of total offense, and the defense got off the field in third down situations holding the Horned Frogs to just 5 of 15 on 3rd down conversions.

The Texas Tech offense needed the help today, Patrick Mahomes only threw for 206 yards and two TDs.

Mahomes came through when it mattered the most though, he tied the game at 17 late in the fourth quarter with a touchdown pass to Dylan Cantrell and ran it in from 15 yards out in the first OT to give the Red Raiders a lead.
