On Saturday it was announced that Texas Tech basketball’s junior forward Zach Smith has declared for the 2017 NBA Draft.
It was first reported via Twitter by CBS Sports college basketball insider Jon Rothstein:
Texas Tech’s Zach Smith will enter the 2017 NBA Draft, but will not hire an agent, per a source.— Jon Rothstein (@JonRothstein) April 22, 2017
According to Rothstein Smith will not hire an agent, which means that he will keep his eligibility for his senior season at Texas Tech.
The buzz seems to be that Smith in all likelihood is strictly entering the draft process to gain feedback on his potential pro future and what he needs to work on, before returning to Lubbock for his senior season.
As a junior, Smith was second on the team in scoring, averaging 12.1 points per game, 7.2 rebounds per game, and hit 50.7% of his shots from the field.
