Texas Tech track & field posted impressive marks on day one of the two-day meets in Fayetteville, Arkansas and Ames, Iowa.
TYSON INVITATIONAL
Darien Tennon had a breakthrough in the 60-meter hurdles running a lifetime best 7.89. This mark beats his previous personal record time of 7.94 and ties him for second in the Big 12.
Vincent Crisp and C.J. Jones claimed the No. 1 and No. 2 spots in the men’s 800-meter run. Crisp paced a 1:48.96 run keeping his second-place conference standing. Crisp also gained the No. 9 spot in the Texas Tech Indoor record book.
With a time of 7.50, Marika Brown beat her personal record of 7.53 in the women’s 60-meter dash qualifying round.
Maygen Smith also pulled for a new personal record, clocking a lifetime best 2:11.23 time in the women’s 800-meter race.
Kyle Collins placed third in the 400-meter Olympic development heats with a time of 46.35. This time allows him the sixth-place spot in Texas Tech indoor records.
IOWA STATE CLASSIC
Miguel Bautista shaved off time in his 5000-meter performance at the ISU Classic. Bautista’s 13:58.17 mark places him seventh in the Texas Tech indoor records. His previous record was 14:31.62 at the Big 12 Championships last year. This mark also makes Bautista the conference leader in the 5000-meter race.
Jocelyn Caro improved her previous top mark in the 5000-meter run to a 16:26.67 time, a 10 second improvement. This is the third meet in a row in which Caro has achieved a new personal best time in her three separate events.
Tomorrow the Tyson Invitational will resume with the high jump starting at noon. The Iowa State Classic will follow with the women’s mile beginning at 12:40 p.m.
