UVA fans flock to ‘The Corner’ before championship game

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WRIC) — University of Virginia fans crowded into stores, bars and restaurants Monday evening at “The Corner” near campus, ahead of the NCAA men’s basketball championship between the Cavaliers and Texas Tech University.

That included Mincer’s sporting goods store. 8News saw several fans buying UVA gear, including a popular “Final Four” t-shirt.

“We’ve been shopping at Mincer’s to update our wardrobe, and we’re going to head over to Sugar Shack to get some orange and blue donuts so we have everything we need to celebrate for the game tonight!” one excited fan told 8News.

Store employees say items have been flying off the shelves and business has been booming for a Monday.

If the Cavaliers win, Mincer’s said championship t-shirts will be printed as soon as the final buzzer sounds. Fans will be able to pick them up first thing in the morning.
