When the No. 20 West Virginia Mountaineers roll into town they will bring another stiff test to Lubbock.
For the second-straight weekend, Texas Tech will face a top-3 Big 12 defense.
After Tech faced the Wildcats last Saturday, K-State and their Big 12’s best defense held the Red Raiders to their lowest scoring output of the season, only posting 38 points.
This weekend the Mountaineers will try to do the same, and they’ve had success in the past.
Over the last two seasons, WVU has held Texas Tech to an average of just 30 points per game.
They even held Tech’s junior quarterback Patrick Mahomes to a measly 196 yards passing last season in Morgantown.
“I think they’re entire defense is good really. Like I talked about year in, year out when we play them, schematically they do a great job trying to take away what you’re good at and it will be a big challenge,” Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury said. “Last year we weren’t very physical and they got after us. And we need to be up to the challenge this year.”
“We’ve played great defense against these guys the past two years. They will be the first guys to tell you that,” West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen said. “31 points was enough to win last year, and I’m very thankful for that. 37 was enough last year.”
