LCU Lady Chap Softball Coach Daren Hays has spent a good majority of his life pursuing what he loves.  And for the most part it has centered around what happens on a baseball or softball diamond.  Since 1992 Coach Hays has blazed a path separate, but somewhat aligned with that of his father, longtime LCU and Texas Tech baseball coach Larry Hays and his brother Shanon Hays.  “You got to love it if you’re going to do it.  There’s different headaches and heartaches and all that.  But if that’s what you love doing.  I say jump in with both feet.”  From coaching the LCU Chaps baseball team to over three-hundred and fifty wins, assisting his Dad at Texas Tech to over fifteen hundred wins, or establishing a Heartland Conference front running softball team, Coach Hays has done it all.  For him there is no place else he would rather be. “People are going to be who they are and that’s one thing I learned from Dad.  You can try to motivate people, but at the end of the day people are pretty much who they are.”
