Monterey Plainsman and Texas Tech Red Raider Ron Reeves has left quite a sports legacy in the South Plains area. Reeves was part of two outstanding programs at Monterey High School…the football and baseball programs. In both cases baseball and football were some of the top teams in the state. Reeves graduated from Monterey in 1978 going on to play quarterback at Texas Tech were he was the Southwest Conference Newcomer of the Year as a freshman and a second team All-SWC QB twice. Reeves was drafted by the Houston Oilers in the 10th round of the 1982 draft. We was released during the season and finished his professional career playing in both the Canadian Football League and the United States Football League until 1985. In 1987, Reeves started Reeves Construction and has enjoyed his career for now thirty years. He was inducted into the Texas Tech Athletic Hall of Honor in 2007 and the LISD Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013.
