It was another dramatic finish for the Red Raider basketball team, marking the fifth time in their last six games to be involved in a contest that was decided by seven points or less.
After seeing many games just like this one slip away down the stretch, Texas Tech rallied and was willed to victory behind Tech senior guard Devaugntah Williams’ game-winning bucket – his lone basket of the night – to give the Red Raiders the 63-61 win.
You just can’t script that sort of timing any better.
“We finished, finally. It’s just great to see that we are over that hump and that we got the win this time,” Texas Tech senior guard Toddrick Gotcher said.
It was a bit of deja vu as now for the second consecutive season, Williams has provided the game-winning bucket versus Oklahoma State. Last year, he buried a three-pointer agains the Pokes with 10 seconds left to play, to lift the Red Raiders to a 63-62 win over the Cowboys.
“Coming out of the timeout, I look at [Aaron] Ross and told him that – We wanted TG [Toddrick Gotcher] to take the shot – but if I get the last shot, I ain’t missing. He said, you better not miss,” Williams said. “I think that it’s a confidence booster. I know that I’ve been in a little slump, but I’ve got these two to help pick up the effort.”
