Happy Friday everyone! Temperatures remained warm for much of the day but as we head into this evening we are watching for our next chance for rain and the slight chance for severe storms. This is all due to a second cold front pushing through the region late tonight through early tomorrow morning. The chance for showers and thunderstorms will begin tonight and continue through early Sunday morning. The Storm Prediction Center has placed the Northeastern South Plains (Hall, Motley, and Cottle counties) under the Slight Risk Category for severe storms this evening. The biggest threats will be large hail, damaging wind gusts, and an isolated tornado threat. This cold front will also bring us another drastic drop in temperatures with highs sitting around the 50 degree mark on Saturday and at or near freezing Sunday morning. This will allow for the chance of sleet, snow, and freezing rain, especially in the northwestern South Plains. Snow accumulations will be light (mostly likely around an inch in the NW corridor).
After the storms clear the region on Sunday, sunshine will return to the forecast and temperatures will rebound quickly on Monday and Tuesday. However, another front and potentially more rain chances return mid-week.
