Happy Friday everyone! With the passage of the cold front complete, our Friday has been much colder and overcast day. The cold rain will continue throughout the remainder of the day and through tomorrow morning with most locations staying just above the freezing mark overnight due to the backing winds to the southeast in the upper atmosphere. However, the Northwest corner of the South Plains, mainly encompassing Parmer, Castro, Bailey, and Lamb counties, will see the chance for some wintry precipitation overnight and into Saturday morning. This mill mostly be in the form of accumulating snow but will quickly turn to slush on many roadways. We are looking at totals between 1-3 inches in these locations (with some locally higher amounts possible) so be prepared for slick roadways and hazardous driving conditions. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for these counties from 9PM tonight through 12PM on Saturday.

Cold rain will continue on and off throughout Saturday for the majority of the region and high temperatures will remain in the upper 30’s and low 40’s. Precipitation amounts could be heavy at times so please be cautious on the roadways no matter what your location may be as we have not seen rain in some time. Temperatures will warm slightly on Sunday and rain will slowly taper off. This warm up will continue into the start of the work week but another cool down is expected on Wednesday.
