January 13th, 2017 Evening Weather

Good evening everyone! It has been a much colder Friday with light freezing rain showers impacting much of the Northern South Plains throughout the day. These will continue into early Saturday morning but it will change over to rain by the early afternoon. As we continue into the evening hours on Saturday, we watch for our next chance for some strong to severe thunderstorms.

We are in the Marginal Risk Category for severe storms on Saturday for the Western South Plains with hail being the biggest threat at this time. The time frame will be early Saturday evening through early Sunday morning.

We then move into the Slight Risk Category for severe storms on Sunday for the Southeastern South Plains. Large hail and damaging wind gusts will be the biggest threats. The time frame will be early Sunday afternoon through the late evening hours on Sunday.

The other issue we are forecasting for the next two days, especially on Sunday, is localized flooding throughout the South Plains. Remember, if you see pooling water, turn around, don’t drown!

Also, for the next two days, park under cover, if possible, to avoid hail damage, move anything indoors that could get blown around, turn off your sprinklers, and drive with caution!
