WINTER STORM WATCH: From 6 pm Wednesday until 6 pm Thursday, Briscoe, Castro, Cottle, Crosby, Dickens, Floyd, Garza, Hale, Hall, Hockley, Kent, King, Lamb, Lubbock, Lynn, Motley, Swisher, and Terry counties is likely to see snow resulting in hazardous travel conditions. WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY: until 12 pm Thursday Borden and Scurry counties are expecting snowfall 1-3 inches.
TODAY: Cold air still sticks around today. Temperature will be stuck in the 30s for the region, with the warmest spots in the mid 30s to the north with peaks of sunshine. Lubbock will be mostly clouds today, with a high of 31°. Snow begins tonight for the southern South Plains and expands northwards through Thursday morning.
TOMORROW: Thursday for the morning commute, the I-27/HWY 87 corridor are likely to see light snowfall. This chance for snow ends for the central South Plains by lunch time. Snow will likely continue into the early afternoon for the Rolling Plains, which is also where more significant accumulations are possible, up to 3 inches. On the Caprock, accumulations will generally be less than an inch. Even light snow and ice can cause hazardous road conditions, so plan on extra time for travel.
LOOKING AHEAD: By Friday this system is long gone and sunshine reigns. Weekend temperatures are trending near 10 degrees above average in the low 60s.
