KAMC’s Storm Team Meteorologist Alex O’Brien has the forecast for 10.5.18.
TODAY: Friday will be another warm and mostly sunny day, with thunderstorms possible in the evening and overnight. High temperatures will be in the mid to upper 80s, at 87 degrees in Lubbock. There is a marginal risk of severe weather today, meaning an isolated severe thunderstorm is possible within general thunderstorms this evening. Storms will start around 4 pm in the western South Plains and track east through the evening.
THIS WEEKEND: Heavy rain is likely this weekend. Starting Saturday, a cold front moves through the region which brings a more widespread chance of showers all day, up to 50% chance. Some of these storms could be severe, with again a marginal risk. Temperatures will drop with this front to the 60s and 70s Saturday, and mid 70s Sunday. A lull in rain chances is expected Saturday night, with more thunderstorm and heavy rain development into Sunday. There is an increased risk for severe weather for the state line Sunday, at a slight risk, which will include longer lived strong storms will possible hail and strong winds. Accumulations are likely to be over an inch in areas that receive rain, up to near 4 inches in isolated spots.
NEXT WEEK: The region stays rainy and mostly cloudy Monday with a 40% chance of rain. Monday will also be breezy in the mid 70s. A drying forecast returns by mid week, but temperatures will remain seasonable in the mid to upper 70s.
