KAMC’s Storm Team Meteorologist Alex O’Brien has the forecast for 10.8.18.

A flood watch is in place until Tuesday at 7 am for Swisher, Briscoe, Hall, Hale, Floyd, Motley, Cottle, Hockley, Lubbock, Crosby, Dickens, King, Yoakum, Terry, Lynn, Garza, and Kent counties. A flash flood watch is in place for Lea, Gaines, Dawson, Borden, and Scurry counties until Tuesday at 7am.

TODAY: There is potential for severe weather and flooding today/tonight as a potent low pressure system approaches from the west. Temperatures today will top out in the low to mid 70s. Morning showers have been isolated and non-severe and will taper off through lunch time. Then in the early evening, thunderstorms will develop in the central and eastern South Plains, some may reach severe levels. All severe weather threats are possible today, including hail, wind, and a low tornado threat. Overnight the threat becomes flooding as heavy rain will move in from the south. Accumulations on the Caprock will likely be near an inch and east of the Caprock 2-3 inches is possible.

TOMORROW: Morning showers will clear out and the sky will gradually clear Tuesday. A cold front will move in from the west and keep temperatures in the low 70s, and dry out the region. 

THIS WEEK: We are trending dry and sunny through mid-week, with temperatures below average in the low to mid 70s. The next chance of rain comes late this week with possible tropical moisture from hurricane Sergio in the Pacific.
