KAMC’s Storm Team Meteorologist Alex O’Brien has the forecast for 10.9.18.
TODAY: Rain has cleared the region, after dropping widespread 1-3 inches in the South Plains over the past 24 hours. Flooding concerns are no longer a threat, but still be cautious driving on wet or muddy roads today. There is a 20% chance of spotty showers or thunderstorms this afternoon, but generally expect a drying trend today. The sky will stay mostly cloudy with peaks of sunshine. Temperatures will be below average, ranging in the upper 50s towards Plainview, up to 69 in Lubbock, and in the low 70s towards Snyder. Tonight a dry cold front moves into the region and allows temperatures to drop to the 40s overnight, with some upper 30s in our northern zones.
TOMORROW: The sky will be mostly clear and sunny Wednesday, but after a chilly start, temperatures will still be below average. Expect upper 60s and low 70s for highs, up to 72 in Lubbock. Winds will turn to the southwest and stay light, 5-10 mph.
LOOKING AHEAD: We will wrap up this week with temperatures below average in the low 70s. The next system we are watching is hurricane Sergio in the Pacific. The jet stream over the U.S. will pull in the tropical air from Sergio and increase rain chances for this weekend. The best chance for rain now looks to be Saturday, at 40%. Then a cold front Sunday into Monday will drop temperatures to the upper 50s to start next week.
