KAMC’s Storm Team Meteorologist Alex O’Brien has the forecast for 12.21.18.
TODAY: It is the winter solstice today! Sunrise is at 7:48 am and sunset it at 5:43 pm, giving us the shortest day of the year. Regardless of the limited daylight hours, temperatures will be 15-20 degrees above average today. A breezy, warm, southwest wind will heat the central and western South Plains to the low 70s. The northern South Plains and eastern Rolling Plains will reach the upper 60s. Lubbock is forecast to reach 70° today.
THIS WEEKEND: On Saturday, a cold front will mostly fizzle out in the panhandle, keeping temperatures slightly cooler in the 60s in the South Plains. By Sunday morning, a stronger cold front knocks temperatures down to the low 50s for highs. These will be dry systems and will not impact holiday travel.
CHRISTMAS: Monday and Tuesday next week will be mild and sunny! Highs will be in the low 60s, so you can enjoy a nice walk after Christmas celebrations.
Happy Holidays!
