KAMC’s Storm Team Meteorologist Alex O’Brien has the forecast for 12.26.18.

TODAY: A rainy day is ahead! Widespread showers with embedded thunderstorms are moving through the region this morning. Around the lunch hour we are likely to see a break, with peaks of sunshine. Then more thunderstorms, and likely stronger storms will redevelop after lunch and end near dinner time. There is potential for severe weather today, most likely as hail and gusty wind, with a very low tornado threat. The strongest storm will be east of the Caprock today. Temperatures will be warm today, up to 62° in Lubbock. Tonight will be clear with dry air taking over.

TOMORROW: Thursday will be mostly clear with plenty of sunshine. Temperatures will be slightly cooler, to the mid 50s. Winds will be slightly breezy from the west 10-15 mph.

LOOKING AHEAD: The next weather maker comes to the South Plains Friday night into Saturday. Snow showers are likely to develop in eastern New Mexico and expand east into the Texas South Plains through Saturday. At this point, the Storm Team is forecasting 1 to 3 inches of snow for Lubbock and the South Plains. We will continue to bring more details in the coming days, so keep checking the forecast.
