KAMC’s Storm Team Meteorologist Alex O’Brien has the forecast for 12.29.17.
TODAY: Freezing fog was observed this morning across the South Plains. After 10 am the fog will begin to dissipate and the rest of the afternoon should be mostly sunny. Temperatures will climb 10-15 degrees above average today. Lubbock’s forecast high is 65 degrees.
THIS WEEKEND: On Saturday, the initial push of cold air comes in the form a “back-door” cold front which will drop temperatures from east to west through the afternoon. Highs will be in the 60s in eastern New Mexico Saturday, while areas east of Lubbock will struggle to get above the 30s. The cold air continues to push westward into Sunday as the Arctic cold front officially arrives. Sunday morning will be breezy and there is a 20% chance of snow showers in the morning until the early afternoon. Accumulations will likely be less than an inch. Highs through the new year are expected to be in the 20s! New Years eve will be in the single digits, so bundle up!
