KAMC’s Storm Team Meteorologist Alex O’Brien has the forecast for 2.15.19.
TODAY: Another warm and breezy day is in store to wrap up this week. Friday highs will be in the mid 70s on the Caprock, up to 80° east of the Caprock. The forecast high for Lubbock is 75°. Winds will increase through the late morning and early afternoon, 10-30 mph. Winds will gust to 40 mph, especialy in the northwest South Plains where a wind advisory is in place until 4 pm. This wind advisory includes Bailey, Castro, Cochran, Hockley, Lamb, and Parmer counties in Texas, plus Curry and Roosevelt counties in New Mexico untl 7 pm.
THIS WEEKEND: Saturday will be even more windy, and a bit cooler. Saturday highs will be in the upper 60s and low 70s. Winds may gust to 50 mph on Saturday, with hazards of blowing dust and critical fire danger. By Sunday, the wind will die down and temperatures will be cool in the mid 50s.
NEXT WEEK: The weather pattern changes early next week. An area of low pressure in the jet stream brings cooler air to the western half of the country. Monday will be in the 40s and Tuesday will likely stay in the 30s. There is a chance of wintry precipitation, a mix of snow and freezing rain, overnight Monday into Tuesday morning. Accumulations will most likely be light. Keep it with the Storm Team while we continue to watch this system.
