KAMC’s Storm Team Meteorologist Alex O’Brien has the forecast for 2.27.19.
TODAY: A pesky cold front will leave a large temperature spread across the South Plains today. Mostly areas northeast of Lubbock will be in the 40s and 50s. Lubbock will be stuck in the middle, with a nice 65° today. The southwest region will make it to the mid 70s! Winds will be variable in direction, but mostly light. The sky will be partly to mostly cloudy all day. Tonight the front moves fully through the region and lows will be in the 20s and 30s.
TOMORROW: Thursday starts chilly, near freezing and then warms to the 60s and 70s as the front again retreats east. The northeast South Plains will still be slightly cool tomorrow, but in the upper 50s. The forecast Thursday for Lubbock is mostly sunny at 69°.
LOOKING AHEAD: Friday is the day heat peaks for this week, with upper 70s likely! The winds will be slightly breezy, but stay away from blowing dust criteria. The strong cold front is still on track this weekend, but slowing a bit to the late morning Saturday. Then reinforcements of cold air keep us in the 30s and 40s until at least next Tuesday. The weekend will be cloudy, with potential drizzle Saturday as the front passes.
