KAMC’s Storm Team Meteorologist Alex O’Brien has the forecast for 3.12.19.
TODAY: A foggy start once again showcases the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere. A DENSE FOG ADVISORY is in place until 1 pm. The low clouds still around through the first part of the afternoon. A warm front allows temperatures to rise to the low 60s today, up to 64 degrees in Lubbock. A few showers are possible in the early afternoon. The main threat for severe weather comes this evening and overnight. A few isolated thunderstorms are possible in the western South Plains near dinner time, with large hail possible up to about an inch in diameter. There is higher confidence in an organized line of thunderstorms to move from west to east overnight, between the hours of 9 pm Tuesday to 3 am Wednesday. This brings the threat of heavy rain and damaging wind gusts. An isolated tornado is possible, but less likely within this line of thunderstomrs. Have a way to receive weather alerts tonight! TOMORROW: A HIGH WIND WATCH is in place all day Wednesday as sustained winds increase to 40-50 mph and gust up to 70 mph. Blowing dust is likely. Secure all lightweight outdoor items. Periodic power outages are possible.
LOOKING AHEAD: The weather calms down by Thursday, with sunshine and a slight breeze. Temperatures stay in the mid 50s to low 60s through the weekend.
