RED FLAG WARNING: Lea, Yoakum, Terry, Roosevelt, Cochran, Hockley, Lubbock, Curry, Bailey, Lamb, Hale, Floyd, Parmer, Castro, Swisher, and Briscoe counties are under a red flag warning Wednesday April 11, 2018 from 1 to 9 pm. Outdoor burning is highly discouraged. Dispose of cigarette butts properly. Call 911 if you see smoke or a wildfire.
TODAY: High fire danger today is expected, reflected by the issuance of a red flag warning. High temperatures will make it to the upper 80s and low 90s. The forecast high for Lubbock is 90 degrees. Winds will gradually become breezy today from the southwest 18-28 mph. Overnight temperatures will be mild in the mid to upper 50s.
TOMORROW: Fire danger will be even higher Thursday afternoon as temperatures climb a few degrees warmer and winds will be stronger. The forecast high for Lubbock is 93 degrees. Winds will be from the southwest from 20-35 mph. Blowing dust is possible and may reduce surface visibility. Red flag warnings have been issued for the majority of the region (these will be subject to change in the next 24 hours).
