TODAY: A RED FLAG WARNING is in effect for the entire region today from noon to 10 pm. Relative humidity will be less than 15% as temperatures rise to the mid 90s. Hazards include rapid wildfire growth. A WIND ADVISORY is also in place today from 1 -10 pm for winds sustained 20-35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. Patchy blowing dust may reduce visibility.

The forecast high temperature is 95 in Lubbock today, and some areas east of the Caprock may reach 100 degrees. The fire danger is extreme today and tomorrow, which will be at some of the highest threat levels so far this season.

TOMORROW: A RED FLAG WARNING is in effect April 13 from 9 am to 9 pm. Extreme fire danger continues with relative humidity 5 – 15% and winds sustained from the west 30 – 40 mph. A HIGH WIND WATCH is also in effect from 9 am to 7 pm for winds gusts near 60 mph. Blowing dust may limit visibility.

The main difference in tangible weather conditions Friday will be a temperature drop. A cold front will impact the South Plains tomorrow and high temperatures will likely be in the mid 60s. The forecast high in Lubbock is 65 degrees. This front will be dry and very windy, so the fire concerns remain particularly dangerous.
