KAMC’s Storm Team Meteorologist Alex O’Brien has the forecast for 4.5.19.

TODAY: Stay weather aware today for the risk of severe thunderstorms this evening and overnight. Before that, the day will be warm and partly cloudy. Lubbock and areas on the Caprock will make it to the upper 70s, areas in the Rolling Plains will reach the low 80s. Tonight there is a slight risk of severe storms. Hazards include hail up to 2 inches in diameter, winds up to 70 mph, and an isolated tornado threat. Storms initially develop along a dryline boundary in the evening, around 5-6 pm, and theses storms will contain the main hail threat. Then overnight, more thunderstorms are likely, with support from the jet stream increasing the heavy rain and wind threat. Some thunderstorms may linger into the early morning hours of Saturday.

THIS WEEKEND: Saturday afternoon the sky will be clearing up and temperatures will climb to the 70s. If you have plans to watch Texas Tech basketball, the weather will be great! Sunday will be in the mid 70s with plenty of sunshine.

NEXT WEEK: Monday through Wednesday will be very warm and sunny, nearing 90° on Tuesday. Wednesday looks to be a strong wind day, with gust potential to 50 mph looking possibe already.
