KAMC’s Storm Team Meteorologist Alex O’Brien has the forecast for 5.10.18.
TODAY: Another day of hot temperatures is in store. Temperatures will be in the mid to upper 90s, with a forecast of 97 in Lubbock. The western South Plains will be near the triple digit mark today, with forecasts temperatures from Muleshoe through Plains at 99 degrees. The wind will be breezy this afternoon from the south-southwest 20-30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. With the wind, heat, and dry conditions, fire danger will be near critical levels today. A RED FLAG WARNING is in place from 12 – 9 pm. Do your part to prevent grass fires, because any spark may spread rapidly.
TOMORROW: We are on record heat watch Friday with a forecast of 100 degrees in Lubbock. The previous record was set in 2000 at 101 degrees. It is important to remember to drink plenty of water and wear sunscreen if you are outdoors. The wind will still be breezy Friday, from the southwest 20-25 mph.
