KAMC’s Storm Team Meteorologist Alex O’Brien has the forecast for 5.14.18.

TODAY: SEVERE WEATHER ALERT DAY. There is a slight risk of severe weather for the northeast and eastern South Plains this afternoon. Storms will initiate between 3-4 pm in the central South Plains along a dryline, then move northeast through the evening while gaining intensity. Threats include large hail and strong winds. Depending on where the dryline sets up, Lubbock may see initial storm formation or be just out of range. Temperatures will remain above average, in the upper 80s and low 90s today. The forecast high for Lubbock is 91 degrees. Behind the dryline, for the western half of our region, we will see elevated to critical fire danger today.

TOMORROW: A similar weather pattern remains Tuesday. We will be watching the dryline once again to give rain chances the the afternoon. There is a more widespread, marginal risk of severe weather for the central and eastern South Plains tomorrow. A better day for Lubbock and the central South Plains to see rain will be Tuesday. There will be again a threat for severe sized hail and gusty wind. Temperatures will reach the 80s and 90s tomorrow. The forecast for Lubbock is 90 degrees.
