KAMC’s Storm Team Meteorologist Alex O’Brien has the forecast for 5.16.18.
TODAY: SEVERE WEATHER ALERT DAY. Today there is a 20% chance of thunderstorms along the dryline. Forecast models show the dryline setting up likely from Muleshoe to Denver City. Storms are most likely east of this boundary. Timing will be from 4 to 11 pm and storms will move east or southeast. The storms today are likely to be more isolated and weaker in general, but a few severe storms cannot be ruled out. The main threats will be hail and wind. Temperatures will rise to the upper 80s and low 90s today.

TOMORROW: Some lingering showers are possible very early in the morning which will clear before sunrise. The temperatures will begin to increase Thursday to the mid 90s. Expect a high of 95 in Lubbock. The atmosphere will slowly become more stable due to a ridge of high pressure in the jet stream approaching from the west. But, the dryline sticks around and there is an isolated severe thunderstorm threat for the northeast South Plains. There is a 20% chance of thunderstorms Thursday, most being non-severe.
