KAMC’s Storm Team Meteorologist Alex O’Brien has the forecast for 5.17.18.

TODAY: SEVERE WEATHER ALERT DAY> There is a 30% chance of thunderstorms this afternoon and some may become severe. The main threats today include large hail and damaging winds over 60 mph. Temperatures will be warmer than yesterday, in the low to mid 90s. This will allow for extra instability and the dryline will create lift for thunderstorm development. Storms will initially be in the western South Plains then move east-northeast through the evening and gain intensity east of the Caprock. Stay weather aware! Make sure you have a way to receive severe weather alerts, whether it be via television, radio, or your mobile device. We will keep you advised here on KAMC News.

TOMORROW: The dryline will likely push east of Lubbock and create much drier conditions Friday. A few stray showers are possible in the far eastern South Plains. But, a sunny and dry day is expected for most. The forecast high in Lubbock is 96 degrees with winds out of the southwest 15-20 mph. It should be a great pool day!
