KAMC’s Storm Team Meteorologist Alex O’Brien has the forecast for 5.2.18.
TODAY: The dryline will once again drive the forecast today. A RED FLAG WARNING is in place for the central and western South Plains this afternoon as relative humidity drop to below 15% as the dryline mixes east off the Caprock. But the moisture will stick around east of the Caprock this evening. That humidity paired with stronger winds from the jet stream will allow a 20% chance of thunderstorms to develop for the southeast and eastern South Plains tonight. Most of this activity will be after midnight through early Thursday morning. These areas are under a slight risk of severe weather, with hail and strong wind possible.
TOMORROW: The dryline will leave the region Thursday afternoon, setting up for more dry and sunny conditions for the rest of the week. Thursday will be a bit cooler back to the low 80s, with a forecast high of 83 in Lubbock. Winds will be from the west-southwest 15-20 mph.
