KAMC’s Storm Team Meteorologist Alex O’Brien has the forecast for 5.25.18.
TODAY: A hot day is in store with mid to upper 90s expected region wide. The forecast for Lubbock is 97 degrees with plenty of sunshine. Winds will be out of the southwest 10-15 mph. There is an isolated thunderstorm chance east of the Caprock today, starting near Childress and moving southeast through the evening.
TONIGHT: Temperatures will be mild overnight, into the upper 60s. The forecast low for Lubbock is 67 degrees. The wind will be from the south 5-10 mph and the sky will be mostly clear.
MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND: Hot, Hot, and Hot. We may beat a record high temperature on Saturday. The forecast is 102 degrees, and the previous record was set in 1945 at 101 degrees. On Sunday, the forecast is 100 degrees and is 99 degrees for Memorial Day. Expect dry conditions as well with lots of sunshine this weekend. On Monday, there is a 10% chance of thunderstorms. These storms will not be big rain makers, but they give a threat for lightning. Find a way to beat the heat for the holiday weekend!
